Running with D i s t r a c t i o n

We all know what it is like to distract ourselves from pain that was caused by a relationship. This song by Solange “Cranes In The Sky” is a perfect capture of what it’s like to try to distract our minds and hearts from healing. We try to drink it away, sex it away, even put one in the air…

These kind of actions are the very thing that majority of people are performing just because they aren’t ready to face themselves. With my own experience, I realize that it’s never truly someone or something else that makes us run. It’s indeed, just us.

When you are forced to sit with all that you are feeling and thinking you are left alone to realize that it’s always you that is at fault. Somehow, someway, no matter how you put it, you can recognize where you went wrong in that relationship. Maybe sometimes the wrong is, you allowing that relationship to form to begin with.

Whatever it is, the common denominator is always you. You can drink it away, you can sex it away, and you can even put one in the air, but until you get comfortable with accepting your own lessons and mistakes, you will be running from more relationships in the future.

What you can’t heal and learn from in the present moment will only carry forward with you into the future. So, I hope that you put the glass down, put your clothes back on, and hold off on lighting up for the sake of your own well-being and future experience.

Why hold on to something that is weighing you down, robbing you of joy, and keeping you from growth? Set the baggage down. You will reach your next destination much lighter if you would. Breathe, it’s going to be okay.
